Tito’s story: from factory farm to sanctuary

Blog

Ten days old and facing a brutal fate, Tito the calf was rescued and given a second chance at life. His story shows the resilience of animals and the power of compassion to create change.

When Tito was just ten days old, his life took a terrifying turn. Taken from his mother and crammed into a truck with other newborn calves, he faced a journey no animal should endure, yet sadly many do. Sickly and fragile, Tito was one of the “leftovers”, a callous term referring to extra animals who are added to trucks knowing they are unlikely to survive the long, brutal trip to slaughter. Trucks are often loaded with more calves than needed as many won’t survive the long, brutal trip to slaughter.

But in that dark moment, compassion shone through. The truck driver, seeing Tito, couldn’t turn away. He reached out to sanctuaries, desperate to give this young calf a chance at life. As one of the lucky ones, Tito landed safely at Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary, supported by World Animal Protection.

Today, Tito is healthy, happy and thriving. He roams wide-open pastures with his cow friends, runs and plays and even leans in for gentle “cow hugs” from sanctuary staff. Because Tito was raised by people from a young age, he’s like a giant puppy – curious, affectionate and full of joy.

Tito’s tale is more than a happy rescue story – it’s a testament to the power of animals. Even in the face of fear and suffering, animals like Tito inspire us with their resilience. They remind us why compassion matters and motivate us to act. Through Tito, we see that each life has the power to create change – whether it’s rescuing a single calf or challenging an entire system that treats animals as disposable.

By supporting sanctuaries like Luvin Arms and advocating for systemic change, we can help more animals escape fear and pain and give them the chance to live safe, joyful and meaningful lives.
