Meet the cats and dogs you helped during Canada’s wildfires
Blog
When wildfires threatened homes and pets in Saskatchewan, you stepped in and gave cats and dogs safety, comfort and care during the chaos.
This past summer, Saskatchewan faced one of its worst wildfire seasons in years. Communities were blanketed in smoke, families were told to leave their homes with only minutes to spare and beloved animals were suddenly at risk of being left with nothing.
For cats and dogs, wildfires can be terrifying. With families rushing to safety, pets often don’t have enough food, crates or supplies and local shelters quickly become overwhelmed.
That’s when your compassion made all the difference.
Through our partnership with the SaskSPCA, your generosity delivered food, crates and supplies to local groups on the front lines of the wildfires. You gave families comfort in the chaos and ensured that their animals had what they needed to stay safe and cared for.
Here are just some of the stories you made possible:
- One group told us that, with your help, they had the supplies to welcome dogs whose families had no choice but to evacuate. By taking them in at no cost, they eased the heavy worry of families who could at least breathe knowing their dogs were safe.
- Another group shared the story of seven cats from a single family forced to evacuate: two mother cats, a young male and three tiny kittens. Thanks to the supplies you provided, the cats had food and shelter throughout the weeks they were displaced.
These are just a few of the countless moments of kindness you made possible during one of Saskatchewan’s hardest wildfire seasons in years. Because of you, animals had food in their bowls, safe shelter and the chance to feel secure in the middle of crisis.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being there when animals needed you most.
