Lighting the way for animals

Blog

Over the past two weeks, iconic landmarks across Canada lit up in orange in honour of our 75th anniversary.

The CN Tower, Niagara Falls and the Ottawa sign all glowed brightly to celebrate not just our legacy - but the people behind it: supporters like you.

For 75 years, our global movement has been working to create a better world for animals. And here in Canada, your support has helped turn that vision into reality – from advancing policy changes to supporting sanctuaries, to raising awareness about the needs of animals everywhere.

Thanks to your compassion and advocacy, we’ve achieved major wins together, including:

🐘 Encouraging over 200 travel companies to stop offering elephant rides and shows.

🐋 Helping secure Canada’s historic ban on the captivity of whales and dolphins.

🌱 Driving national conversations on sustainable food systems with reports like Moving the Menu and our work with Navius Research on the climate impact of plant-rich diets.

🐯 Advocating for stronger laws like the proposed Captive Wildlife Protection Act, which aims to end harmful zoo practices and close legal loopholes.

These achievements reflect what’s possible when passionate people come together to protect animals and the planet.

To help mark the milestone here in Canada, we also took time to speak with colleagues who’ve been at our organization for over a decade. Their reflections are a powerful reminder of how much progress we’ve made.
