Together, we’re changing life for millions of pigs

Blog

Factory farming affects billions of animals around the world. The scale of the problem can feel enormous, but change is happening.

A shift is underway

Around the world, progress is giving millions of pigs more freedom, better welfare and lives with less suffering. And supporters like you are helping make it possible.

Millions of pigs are already living better lives

By working with governments, companies and people who care about animals, we’re helping change the systems and practices that cause suffering on factory farms.

Together, we’ve helped achieve meaningful progress:

  • Thailand: 2.3 million pigs are benefiting from better treatment, including mother pigs freed from cages and piglets spared painful procedures.
  • China: 20,000 mother pigs from one producer have more freedom from cages, with better living conditions being made possible for another 400,000 pigs every year.
  • United States: Nearly 366,000 pigs every year are expected to benefit from a commitment to phase out cages for mother pigs, after 72,000 supporters called for change.
  • Canada: An estimated 60% of the pork industry has moved away from confining pregnant pigs in individual stalls, which is progress that we helped achieve alongside other animal advocacy groups.

Behind every number is an animal

Millions of pigs living better lives is an incredible achievement. But each of these animals is an individual. A mother pig with more room to move. A piglet spared a painful procedure. A pig living in better conditions because people decided things needed to change. That’s what progress looks like.

There’s still so much more to do

Millions of pigs continue to suffer on factory farms and many harmful practices remain. That’s why we keep working to improve protections, change farming practices and push governments and companies to do better for animals.

We know change is possible because together, we’re already making it happen. And with your support, we can keep building on this progress and help give millions of more farmed animals better lives.

Did you know that...

In Canada there are NO laws governing the treatment of animals on farms, except in cases of abuse and cruelty? With your support, we can strengthen protections for farmed animals.
