Tell PetSmart to stop supporting the wildlife trade
PetSmart contributes to the cruel multi-billion-dollar trade that exploits wild animals on an industrial scale. Every year, thousands of wild animals are impacted by PetSmart’s policies.
The snakes, lizards, tortoises, and frogs you see at PetSmart are wild animals suffering in the trade. Whether caught from the wild or captive bred, these animals are treated as mere merchandise with a complete disregard for their individual needs throughout their lives until, in many cases, they suffer an early death.
Trade in wild animals can also lead to the spread of zoonotic diseases and illnesses, with disease outbreaks as result. Health agencies, including the Public Health Agency of Canada, warn that reptiles and amphibians are inappropriate for families with young children, older adults, or anybody who has a compromised immune system. PetSmart continues to sell them anyway.
PetSmart has taken action before to protect animals, let’s move them to do so again!
PetSmart made the decision to not sell kittens and puppies because of concerns about the high euthanasia rates of unwanted animals. Now it's reptiles and amphibians that are facing suffering and high mortality rates. It’s time for PetSmart to stop selling exotic wild animals.
Sign the petition today and urge PetSmart to stop the sale of reptiles and amphibians in their stores.
Take action now!
